Congratulations To Team Flash For Their FIFA Online 3 Win!
Bountie would like to congratulate Singaporean esports group Team Flash for their international team gold medal win for the game FIFA Online 3 at the East Asian Champions (EACC) Cup Spring 2018 tournament. The team is qualified to represent their country in the FIFA eWorld Cup that will be happening in June 2018.
Team Flash’s FIFA Online 3’s team consists of Si Jun Li, Amraan Gani Musa Bakar, and Joseph Yeo, who beat Thailand 3–0 in the grand finals. The team fought against South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, and China as well.
Team Flash manager Terence Ting said on Straits Times that the esports scene in Singapore needed recognition, not funds.
“There are already a lot of investors in the field,” he said, adding that more government support would help combat “the stereotypical image of the [esports gamer]”, which negatively affects Singaporeans’ view of esports as a feasible career.
“I think with this win,” Terence said exclusively to Bountie, “we’ve proven that Singapore truly has what it takes to compete on the international stage for esports.
“Because of our market size, Singapore has always had a disadvantage in sports with a smaller talent pool to draw from. We believe our win will give brands and media a reason to shout and support the scene, which we’ve already seen happening to us. It will also give emerging talent in the scene motivation to keep fighting for their dreams, no matter how far they seem to be. To be honest, we expected a top 3 finish at best, so to finish as champion was beyond our wildest dreams.”
“We feel a major non-endemic brand investing in Singapore as the regional hub for Esports in SEA would be huge for our scene,” said Terence when asked about methods of making Singapore take esports seriously.
“Even though we have a disadvantage in terms of market size and esports culture, Singapore has one of the fastest broadband penetration speeds in the whole of the region — which makes it an ideal place for innovation and technology. With the increased exposure from our win, we also hope to see more major Venture Capital firms taking interest in the esports businesses around our region — which will also help us to scale our businesses to where they need to be and improve the ecosystem overall.”
Currently, Team Flash is negotiating with the players for their contracts as they just achieved a major win on the International stage. “We hope to work with them until the end of the season,” said Terence, “and ideally through to the 2022 ASEAN games — even though that is still 4 years away and many things can happen.”
“We will also be looking to further expand our FIFA team and establish Team Flash as the premier team for FIFA Esports in the world.”
The team won US$108,000 (SG$140,000) out of the US$239,000 prize pool. This win will help cement Singapore’s place in esports even further. It is just as monumental as Razer’s Xian winning Final Round in Street Fighter V and Team Impunity’s high placement in the worldwide Vainglory circuit last year.
Once again, we would like to congratulate Team Flash for a well-fought win in esports.
